After many delays to the publication date the Alfa Romeo V6 Engine High-Performance Manual will at last be published this month. Following in the tracks of the author’s well-known DOHC tuning manual this new book is the result of much research and firsthand experience gained through many projects concerning Alfa V6 rear-wheel drive models, from the GTV6 series to the last of the 75 3.0 models. Covers Alfa Romeo 1981-1993 on GTV6 and 75 2.5 and 3.0-litre rear-wheel drive models and all 3-litre Alfa Romeo 164 models. With over 150 photographs, comprehensive diagrams and covering the peripheral modifications necessary to deal with the massive increase in power, this book is a must-have for any Alfista.

Coming next month Grand Prix : The Killer Years DVD from the producers of the excellent documentary Deadliest Crash : the 1955 Le Mans Disaster. In the 60s and early 70s it was common for Grand Prix drivers to be killed racing, often televised for millions to see. Mechanical failure, lethal track design, fire and incompetence snuffed out dozens of young drivers. They had become almost expendable as eager young wannabes queued up at the top teams gates waiting to take their place. This is the story of when Grand Prix was out of control.

MOTORING : There are Some new DVDs this week including to on Rover and the story of the RS Fords. Now available is the third volume of Hitler’s Chariots, this one covers Volkswagen.
AVIATION : Harrier is our ‘pick’ this week. This title forms a comprehensive study of the aircraft’s history, tracing the development and service deployment of this unique warplane, including coverage of combat operations, service with the United States Marines, and a first-hand detailed account of present-day Harrier operations as seen from the cockpit.
MILITARY : Just published is Black Watch by Tom Renouf who served with the 51st Highland Division in WW2. Tom draws on his own personal experiences – as well as his unique archive of interviews with veterans amassed over twenty years as secretary of the 51st Highland Division Veterans’ Association – to paint a vivid picture of the Battle of Normandy, the liberation of Holland, the Battle of the Bulge and many more memorable WW2 events.
This book is going to the top of my reading list as my Father served with the 51st Highland Division. Although he has never mentioned that they captured Himmler! Another excellent book on the 51st HD is None Bolder by Richard Doherty. Ian, Motor Books
